Throne Gard PPF: features, authenticity and warranty

Throne Gard PPF is a flexible layer of TPU film applied over a car’s original paint. It takes the marks of stones thrown up on the motorway on its own surface and minimises the fading and oxidation the sun causes on paint. In this article we explain the film’s features, how to recognise the original product, PreCut cutting, what the warranty covers and the removal of the film from a Mercedes C-Class whose side was damaged in an accident.

At Royal Class Garage we use Throne Gard films for PPF installations. In this article we have gathered the features of Throne Gard PPF on one page: what the film protects against, how to recognise the original product, PreCut cutting and what the warranty covers. After that, you can watch a video of the film being removed, with our customer present, from a Mercedes C-Class whose side was damaged in an accident, and read about the film options and care advice.

What does Throne Gard PPF protect?

The most transparent, most reliable insurance for your car.

PPF (Paint Protection Film) is an invisible, flexible layer of TPU film applied over your car’s original paint. Thanks to its high impact absorption, it takes the marks left by road conditions on its own surface, and your car’s paint stays as it was on the first day. At RoyalClass Garage, we use only original, licensed Throne Gard products.

We have summed up the film’s four main features in the table below:

FeatureWhat does it do?
A shield against stone chipsAbsorbs the marks left by gravel and stones thrown up on the motorway on its own surface.
Protection against UV and oxidationMinimises the fading and oxidation the sun’s rays cause on paint.
Self-healing surfaceFine scratches on the surface repair themselves with heat. PPF always looks new.
Protects your resale valueBecause the paint under the PPF stays original, your car’s resale value is kept at the highest level.

Stone chip marks show most on the surfaces facing the road. You can have the areas exposed to impacts covered, such as the front bumper, bonnet, wings and mirror caps, or the whole car. A car that makes short trips around town may not need the same coverage as one that regularly does long journeys; we explain the difference between the two approaches in our guide to what paint protection film is.

How do you recognise original PPF?

With Throne Gard PPF, authenticity can be traced in two places: the film itself and the centre that installs it.

Authenticity visible under UV light

An end to being let down by fake clear products in the industry! With authenticity licences inside the clear PPF on your car that show up under UV purple light, you are 100% covered.

Authorised installation centre

As a certified Throne Gard Turkey authorised installation centre, we work with original, licensed products.

What does PreCut cutting offer?

An exact fit with digital cutting software specific to your car’s model. Flawless installation. In every province of Turkey, with the Royal Class assurance, PreCut machine-cutting technology means your PPF work is completed in no time.

The installation follows four steps:

  1. Inspection. We look at the current condition of the paint: stone chips, scratches and previously repainted or repaired areas can affect the choice of coverage. Which film goes on which areas is decided together.
  2. Surface preparation. The painted surface is cleaned and prepared for installation.
  3. Film installation. Throne Gard film is fitted to the chosen areas.
  4. Check and handover. The installation is checked over, then the car is handed back.

You can find the coverage options and how the installation is planned on our paint protection film page.

What does the warranty cover?

All Throne Gard products are covered by a 7-year manufacturer’s warranty. Your warranty is tracked directly with the manufacturer.

You can find the online lookup with your warranty card, the warranty transfer, what the warranty document covers and lists as not covered, and copies of the certificates on our warranty page. You can bring any questions about the warranty to the inspection.

What did PPF do in a real accident?

We shared the video below on our Instagram account on 28 February 2026. The Mercedes C-Class in the video had been damaged along its whole side in an accident. The car had Throne Gard PPF on it.

Throne Gard PPF in an accident: Mercedes C-Class

In the first seconds of the video, the scuff marks running along the doors on the side of the car can be seen up close. From around the 35-second mark, the film is removed piece by piece from the damaged area with the help of a heat gun. The marks stay on the film as it comes off, and the paint underneath is revealed as the film lifts.

We removed the film with our customer present, and there was no damage to the paint underneath. So the car came through the accident without needing paintwork and without losing value. We then carried out paintless dent repair on the car and covered it again with Throne Gard PPF; we shared this stage in a separate video on 17 March 2026.

PPF is a layer applied to the painted surface and can be removed when needed. The result of removal depends on the condition of the paint underneath; with paint that has been resprayed or is peeling, the paint can be affected during removal, which is why we look at the paint together before installation.

Which Throne Gard PPF finishes do we apply?

At our workshop we apply Throne Gard PPF in gloss clear and matte. Gloss clear film does not change the colour of the paint; the paint’s existing colour and gloss keep showing through the film. Matte film gives a gloss-painted car a matte look, so the same installation means both a protective layer and a change of finish.

We apply three Throne Gard PPF series:

  • US200 Ultra Shield: ultra gloss series; 200 microns, 350% elastomer, 7-year warranty.
  • PR200 Prime: ultra gloss series; 200 microns, 250% elastomer, 7-year warranty.
  • SMS200 Satin Matte Shield: satin matte finish; 200 microns, 250% elastomer, 7-year warranty.

Product information is based on the latest product descriptions shared by the brand. Elastomer values are given in the term used in the brand’s statement. Warranty coverage and care conditions are set out in the warranty document you receive at handover. We can choose the series that suits the look you want together at the inspection.

When the dark green Mercedes-Benz G450d was covered with gloss PPF, the paint’s dark green tone stayed exactly as it was. On the BMW X1 project, matte PPF gave the light grey body a more understated look.

The coverage is also chosen to suit your car: only the areas exposed to impacts, or the whole car. On the BMW i4 project, clear film was applied to the car’s entire surface. The film is not only for new cars; it can also be applied to used cars. What matters is the current condition of the paint. We decide together at the inspection, after seeing the car, which finish and coverage suit you.

How does Throne Gard PPF differ from ceramic coating?

PPF is a physical film applied over the paint, while ceramic coating is a liquid product that forms a thin layer on the surface. They meet different expectations and can also be considered together. If you are thinking of ceramic coating on a car with PPF, suitability depends on the film type and the product to be used; with matte films in particular, the matte look of the surface needs to be kept. We compare the two in detail in our article PPF or ceramic coating?

How do you wash a car with Throne Gard PPF?

Care recommendations vary with the film type and the installation, but some principles are common to all:

  • Use a pH-neutral shampoo and a soft microfibre mitt or towel.
  • Avoid automatic car washes with hard brushes.
  • Keep away from abrasive compounds, solvents and harsh chemicals.
  • Do not use polish, wax or gloss-enhancing products on matte film, as they can spoil the matte look.
